St. Naum Monastery by Boat from Ohrid

The southern shore trip to St. Naum leaves Ohrid at 10:30 and is back at 16:30, with stops at the Bay of Bones, Trpejca and St. Zaum.

The boat trip from Ohrid to St. Naum Monastery is the long day on the southern shore. You leave the city in the morning, stop where the prehistoric village stands over the water, and reach the monastery springs before turning back.

The route and the hours

The St. Naum tour departs from in front of Hotel Tino at 10:30 and is back at 16:30. The distance is about 50 km and the day on the water is about six hours. A guide, non-alcoholic drinks and Wi-Fi are included. The price and the exact guest count live on the tour page, because they change before a season does.

Where the boat stops

The day is built as a chain of shoreline stops, not a single drop-off:

  • The old city as you leave: Samuel’s Fortress, St. Sophia and Kaneo
  • Bay of Bones, with about an hour ashore at the museum and the reconstructed stilt houses
  • Trpejca, the fishing village on the cliffs
  • The Church of the Holy Mother of God at Zaum, about a 30-minute stop
  • St. Naum Monastery, at the springs near the Albanian border

The Bay of Bones guide explains that museum stop on its own. The monastery, the springs and the peacocks in the courtyard are why most people book the full day. Our What to See page collects the same shoreline if you want the places before the timetable.

What to bring

Comfortable shoes for the monastery paths, a layer for the ride back, and cash if you want coffee at Naum. The boat does not replace the time you would spend walking the springs, so six hours is the right length for this route and too long if you only wanted Kaneo. When the date is set, reserve the day and choose St. Naum.
